Consume Tempe to Prevent Osteoporosis

Perhaps you often heard the word "osteoporosis" is a disease that causes bone fragility that occurs due to lack of calcium. and, do you know if tempeh can prevent osteoporosis?

Tempeh is a food made from the fermentation of soy beans or another stuffs that use some sort of Rhizopus, such as Rhizopus oligosporus, Rh. oryzae, Rh. stolonifer (bread mold), or Rh. arrhizus. The formulation of this fermentation is usually known as "tempeh". (wikipedia)

The Nutrition Expert, Prof Dr Muhilal stated
that the calcium substance of tempeh are very high, and is nowadays consumed by the public. In addition, Tempe also has another use, such as:


  • Effective to cure diarrhea due to protein that contained in Tempe.
  • Anti-infection. The survey results indicated that soybean contains antibacterial compounds produced by reef tempeh (R. oligosporus) is an antibiotic that is useful to minimise the incidence of infection.
  • Bears iron, which are antioxidants flafoid so that lowering blood pressure.
  • Contains desmutase superoxide that can control free radicals that is good for heart patients.
  • To treat anemia because of the availability of iron (Fe), copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), protein, folic acid and vitamin B12 in tempeh.
  • Hypocholesterol power. Polyunsaturated fatty acid content in tempeh is to lower cholesterol.
  • Has anti-oxidant properties that can resist cancer.
Indonesia is the country's largest soybean producer in the world and become the largest soybean market in Asia. Some 50% of Indonesian soy consumption takes the form of tempeh, 40% knew, and 10% in other products (such as tauco, soy sauce, etc.).
